Eddie Hall vs Hafthor Bjornsson will clash in the ‘the heaviest boxing match in history’ next September.

The two strongmen are long-time rivals and have competed in World’s Strongest Man competitions in the past.

Hall won the 2017 World’s Strongest Man as Bjornsson accused the Brit of cheating during the Viking Press.

However, video evidence uploaded to Hall’s YouTube channel appeared to dismiss the Icelander’s claims.

Now, the pair will come to blows inside a boxing ring in Las Vegas.

Hall said: “I’m training for this fight like I trained to be the strongest man in the world, no stone unturned and anyone in my way is getting milled down.

“With the experience MTK Global [the official boxing advisers to organisers Core Sports] brings to the table, this event will be even better than it was going to be.

As for the fight itself, I have zero doubt in my mind that cry baby Thor is getting folded in half and sent packing back to Iceland.”

Bjornsson, who is well known for playing ‘The Mountain’ in Game of Thrones, added: “I’m very excited with MTK Global’s involvement as this is something I’ve been taking very seriously and I want others to know how serious this fight will be.

“I’ve been extremely focused and dedicated in my training as always and I am looking forward to getting in that ring.”

A fight between the pair has long been rumoured and there is now official confirmation the bout will take place in September 2021.

Belfast boxer Steven Ward is being lined up to fight Game of Thrones giant Hafthor ‘Thor’ Bjornsson next month.

In a bizarre twist of boxing fate, Ward will take on ‘The Mountain’ in an exhibition bout in Iceland on January 16.

The fight is to help former World’s Strongest Man Bjornsson prepare for his showdown with fellow strongman Eddie Hall next September.

MTK Global – who manage Belfast cruiserweight Ward – are working in an advisory role for Bjornsson vs Hall, which has been billed as ‘The Heaviest Boxing Match of All Time’.

“It all sort of came out of the blue, and it is something different,” Ward told Belfast Live.

“It is a bit left-field but when the opportunity was put to me I said yes. Boxing in the current climate is difficult, and getting fights is tough.

“My last fight was in September, and it could be February or March before I fight professionally again, and I have a young family.

“So when this was put to me I thought it through and said I would do it.”

The fight with Bjornsson – who played Gregor ‘The Mountain’ Clegane in the hit HBO series Game of Thrones – will be over three three-minute rounds and will be held in the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik.

“I’ve never watched Game of Thrones, so I wasn’t even aware of Bjornsson’s role in the show. He’s massive!” Ward laughed.

“But I have met him before. I saw him in Belfast and saw him working on the bags. He is athletic and can move for a big man. He definitely surprised me.

“It will be something totally different and will keep me ticking over.

“I am hoping to get another fight in February or March so this will keep me active and training.”

It’s ‘Quietman’ versus strong man as Steven Ward takes on Hafthor Bjornsson in an exhibition bout in Iceland on January 16.

The two men will collide in Reykjavik next month, as Bjornsson continues to train ahead of his showdown with fellow strongman Eddie Hall.

That fight with Hall is being dubbed as ‘The Heaviest Boxing Match of All Time’ and sees MTK Global working with CoreSports to serve as the official boxing advisors for the clash.

Before Game Of Thrones stars Bjornsson turns his attention to the fight with Hall in September 2021, the man known as ‘The Mountain’ will first meet Ward in the exhibition bout.

Ward is a former WBO European light-heavyweight champion, and was involved in a Fight of the Year contender in 2019, when he defeated Liam Conroy in an incredible battle at the Ulster Hall in Belfast.

The Belfast fighter bounced back from his first career defeat and Golden Contract exit with in September.

The Jamie Moore trained fighter successfully moved up to cruiserweight with a six round points victory over Jone Volau.
